SARASOTA, Fla. – October 29, 2014 – 8:30 a.m.

The Sarasota Police Department has received the New Horizon Award for 2014 by the Florida Crime Prevention Association. The award was presented during the 45th Annual Training Conference Awards in Lake Buena Vista last week.

According to the Florida Crime Prevention Association, the New Horizon Award is for any Crime Prevention Practitioner or Crime Prevention Unit who is either new to Crime Prevention or has revamped an old Crime Prevention Unit. The recipient of the award is one who has shown the most vision and growth in the Crime Prevention field for the past two (2) years, between October 2012 and September 2014.

The accomplishments of the Sarasota Police Department Crime Prevention Unit include revamping of the Citizen Volunteer Program, partnering with the Coalition of City Neighborhood Associations (CCNA) for Neighborhood Crime Watch, development of the Citizens Academy and the branding of BLUE + YOU from our partnership with the Ringling College of Art and Design.

The SPD Crime Prevention Unit is a three-person team, consisting of Officer Danny Robbins, Officer Cherie McKeon and Officer Linda DeNiro, under the supervisor of Sergeant Eric Bolden and Captain Patrick Robinson.
