Undercover Buys Targeting Designer Drugs Ends with Six Individuals Arrested

SARASOTA, Fla. – May 12, 2014 – 11:45 a.m.

On Friday, May 9, 2014, the Sarasota Police Department Narcotics Unit, with the assistance of the Street Crimes Unit, conducted an undercover buy bust operation in downtown Sarasota targeting the sale and possession of designer drugs.

As a result of the operation, six individuals were arrested in the southwest parking lot of Sarasota City Hall, 1565 1st Street in Sarasota.

"These substances are not safe alternatives to illicit drugs. Many times, they can cause serious harm and can even cause death. These are very dangerous substances and not manufactured for human consumption. Who knows where this stuff is made? It could be made in someone’s garage or bathroom. Do you want that in your body?" said Lt. Pat Ledwith, Criminal Investigation Division, Sarasota Police Department.
