SARASOTA, Fla. – May 20, 2014 – 12 p.m.
On Wednesday, May 13, 2014, the Sarasota Police Department Street Crimes Unit in conjunction with the Narcotics Unit conducted a prostitution operation targeting individuals soliciting prostitutes; "Johns."
The operation was conducted at two different locations on N. Tamiami Trail. As a result of the operation, the following three males were arrested for Solicitation of Prostitution;
• Manuel D. Enriquez: DOB 12-20-59 – resides at 1186 Alabar Lane Cape Coral, Florida
• Joaevan C. West: DOB 08-14-68 – resides at 1509 25th Street Sarasota, Florida
• Jay T. Wilson: DOB 09-22-54 – resides at 6895 N. 1200 W. Middlebury, Indiana
In addition, three vehicles were seized under city ordinance including a full-size dump truck (photo included).
On May 7, 2014, Mehul Patel, 33 of Sarasota, was arrested and charged with renting space to be used for lewdness/prostitution, prohibiting prostitution and related acts and deriving support from the proceeds of prostitution. In February, the Sarasota Police Department Street Crimes Unit began an investigation at the Sarasota Airport Hotel, 4900 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.
Information was received that indicated employees at the hotel were knowingly renting rooms for prostitution. Information also indicated that employees were acting as "look outs" for people engaged in prostitution and narcotics related activities, warning them of police presence on the property. An undercover operation was conducted at the Sarasota Airport Hotel in response to this information. The investigation continued and Patel was arrested on May 7.
