Sarasota Police Department to increase patrols and operations to kickoff summer

SARASOTA, Fla. -- March 23, 2014 -- 3 p.m.

Beginning today, May 23, 2014, the Sarasota Police Department will be addressing community and intelligence lead policing initiatives.

Citizens can expect to see high visibility of the Sarasota Police Department in targeted areas which historically, through data information, show an increase in crime and quality of life issues in the community during this time of year.

Officers will be addressing all traffic violations including seatbelts, speed and texting while driving.  Citizens will see an increase of patrols in their neighborhoods in an effort to prevent and address crime issues.

The Sarasota Police Department asks city residents and visitors to call 941-316-1199 to report all criminal activities, suspicious people or incidents.  As McGruff the Crime Dog says, together we can all take a bite out of crime.  Blue + You = Safe Communities.

“We’re encouraging residents and visitors if they see something, say something.  Residents and visitors are an extra set of eyes and ears for the Sarasota Police Department.  Anyone seeing anything out of the ordinary or suspicious is encouraged to call law enforcement authorities,” said Chief Bernadette DiPino, Sarasota Police Department.
