Emergency Manager to be introduced during Hurricane Season Kick-Off

On Tuesday, May 27, 2014, the 2014 Sarasota County/City Joint Hurricane Season Kick-Off Community Preparedness Seminar will be held at the John Chidsey Bay Front Community Center at 803 N. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

During the event, Chief Bernadette DiPino and City Manager Tom Barwin will introduce the new City of Sarasota Emergency Manager, Richard “Todd” Kerkering.  Mr. Kerkering is very familiar with Sarasota; He’s served as the Planning Section Chief for Sarasota County Emergency Management since 2007.

“Mr. Kerkering is an outstanding addition to the Sarasota Police Department team.  His experience with Sarasota County, as well as his expertise in the area of Emergency Management, makes him the ideal selection.  He will assist the City in planning for the worst while hoping for the best.  Blue + Todd Kerkering + You = Disaster Preparedness,” said Chief Bernadette DiPino.

Within the Table of Organization, the position of Emergency Manager has previously been under the leadership of the City of Sarasota Human Resources Department but, with the City’s new Emergency Operations Center based within Police Headquarters, it now is under the leadership of Chief Bernadette DiPino and the Sarasota Police Department.
