Search warrant results in 395 packages of designer drug seized; Store owner arrested

SARASOTA, Fla. – June 10, 2014 – 10:30 a.m.

Rami Ahmed Abed Rabboh, 31, of Brandon, Florida, has been arrested and charged with possession of a designer drug (misdemeanor) and possession of a controlled substance (felony) after a search warrant was executed Friday, June 6, 2014 at Snacks Grocery in Sarasota.

The Sarasota Police Department Narcotics Unit, with the assistance of the Street Crimes Unit and Patrol Division, executed a search warrant at Snacks Grocery, 1950 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way. The search warrant was obtained following an investigation into the illegal sale of designer drugs, also known as ‘spice.’

As a result of the search warrant, the owner of the grocery store, Rabboh, was arrested and detectives seized 395 packages of designer drugs of numerous varieties, $937 in U.S. currency, a firearm and numerous items of drug paraphernalia hidden behind the counter of the store.

None of the designer drugs were on display for purchase but had to be requested from the customer and retrieved from a hidden area. The investigation is continuing and additional charges are expected.
