Sarasota Police Detectives reminding residents & visitors to secure valuables

SARASOTA, Fla. – June 24, 2014 – 9:45 a.m.

Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department are encouraging residents and citizens in the City of Sarasota to either take valuables with them or leave them at home.  Recent cases indicate one or more persons are targeting areas where valuables would be left locked inside a vehicle such as a beach, park, gym or other similar location.

On June 10, 2014, three vehicle burglaries were reported to the Sarasota Police Department.  One occurred at Marina Jack (5 Marina Plaza, Sarasota) and two occurred at Bath and Racquet Club (2170 Robinhood Street, Sarasota).  In all three cases, windows were smashed and valuables were taken from inside the vehicles.  Thieves in all three cases used force to take valuables and stole credit cards and social security cards, using the cards within hours of the crime.

If any residents or citizens see something out of the ordinary, contact the Sarasota Police Department or call 9-1-1 immediately.
