Detectives attempting to identify suspect seen on camera breaking into vehicles

SARASOTA, Fla. – September 18, 2014 – 9 a.m.

Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department are asking the public for assistance in identifying a man seen on surveillance video burglarizing two vehicles at about 4 a.m. on August 25, 2014 in the 3200 block of Old Oak Drive in Sarasota.

On surveillance video, which can be viewed at, the suspect is seen walking up to one vehicle, opens the unlocked door, looks through various areas of the front compartment area and then exits.  The suspect then opens the unlocked door to a second vehicle, looks around for a short time, takes a pair of sunglasses and then exits the vehicle.

The suspect is described as a male, last seen wearing a tank top, shorts and sneakers with short hair and two tattoos on each arm around the bicep area.

The Sarasota Police Department encourages drivers to lock vehicles at home or while out and about, if even away from the vehicle for a few moments.  More than half of vehicle burglaries that occur in the City of Sarasota happen to vehicles that are left unlocked.
