The attempted robbery occurred on January 11, 2015 at North Trail Liquors, 3428 North Tamiami Trial, Sarasota. The first woman, who detectives believe is a lookout, is seen on video on her cell phone coming up to the counter and demanding to look at different bottles behind the counter.

Shortly afterwards, the next two women enter the store. The clerk told detectives she observed one of the women take and conceal a bottle of liquor in her purse. The clerk told detectives she believed the other woman also concealed a bottle of liquor in her purse. The clerk locked the front exit door prohibiting the two women from leaving the store.

The clerk attempted to stop the women at the front exit door and asked to look inside their purses. The clerk told the women she was calling the police. One of the women placed her purse on the counter and the clerk observed a bottle of vodka in plain view. The clerk attempted to remove the bottle of vodka and the two women started to fight with the clerk.

When the clerk went to call 911, one of the women picked up another bottle of vodka and threatened to hit her with it. At this point, the clerk grabbed a wooden bat from behind the counter and took the bottle from the woman’s hands. The clerk followed the two women out of an unlocked door on the other side of the store and one of the women spit on the clerk as they were exiting.

The women were last seen leaving the store in a gray, older model minivan with front end damage. The vehicle was last seen going northbound on North Tamaimi Trail in Sarasota.
