SARASOTA, Fla. – Feb. 4, 2015 – 4:30 p.m.
Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department have discovered a second skimming device that was placed on another Sun Trust Bank in the City of Sarasota.
The first skimming device was discovered on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Sun Trust Bank in the 1700 block of Main Street, Sarasota. Detectives believe that skimming device was placed on the drive-up through ATM around 6:45 a.m. The skimming device was removed just before 11 a.m. by Sun Trust security.
The second skimming device was placed on an ATM at the Sun Trust Bank, 3400 South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at about 10:20 a.m. An investigation revealed the skimming device had been removed by the suspect by 1:40 p.m. A victim contacted the Sarasota Police Department earlier this week and that is when it was discovered that the second skimming device had been placed at second location.
Detectives believe the same suspect placed the skimming devices on both Sun Trust branches in the City of Sarasota. Detectives also believe this same suspect is related to a group of people who have been placing skimming devices on Sun Trust ATMs from Orlando to Tampa Bay to Fort Myers.
The Sarasota Police Department is encouraging Sun Trust Bank customers to check their statements closely and report any suspicious activity to their local branch and local law enforcement.
