Distraction Burglaries Safety Alert from the Sarasota Police Department

SARASOTA, Fla. – March 30, 2015 – 10:30 a.m.

On Saturday, March 28, 2015, a burglary occurred in the 3900 block of Glen Oaks Manor Drive, Sarasota. This is the second burglary reported to the Sarasota Police Department where suspects are claiming to be with a company when they are not and stealing jewelry from homeowners. Over the last several weeks, similar burglaries have also been reported to surrounding law enforcement agencies. The suspects involved in the burglaries are claiming to be from a water, construction or power company however they are not with any sort of company. One suspect tells a homeowner there is a problem with their home and while they go to take a look at the problem, the other suspect will enter the home and steal personal items such as jewelry.

February 19, 2015 Incident Suspect Description – 1500 block of Bay Point Drive, Sarasota

Only one suspect: Hispanic male, 6’0", 170 lbs., brown hair, brown eyes; Last seen wearing a white sweatshirt, khaki shorts, white shoes and a khaki baseball cap. Last seen driving a light colored pickup truck.

March 28, 2015 Incident Suspect Description – 3900 block of Glen Oaks Manor Drive, Sarasota

Suspect 1: Hispanic male, 6’0", 185 lbs., dark hair, dark eyes, moustache. Last seen wearing dark pants and an unknown shirt with yellow in it. Last seen driving a silver SUV.

Suspect 2: Possibly Hispanic, male, 5’7", 135 lbs., dark hair, dark eyes. Last seen wearing brown overalls. Last seen driving a vehicle smaller than an SUV.

How you can protect yourself:

• DO NOT let the individual inside your home or business

• DO NOT go outside with the individual

• DO NOT provide any sort of personal information

• If in doubt, call the company the individual is claiming to be with to confirm their visit
