SARASOTA, Fla. – June 19, 2015 – 1 p.m.
On Thursday, June 25, 2015, Tyler Babcock will become an honorary Sarasota Police Officer for a Day. This is made possible through the partnership of the ‘I Am More’ Foundation and the Sarasota Police Department.
Tyler, 17, is native to the Tampa Bay area. Shortly after his birth, he was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Unfortunately, Tyler’s body has not been able to keep up and complications have arisen. Due to the health complications, Tyler is awaiting a liver and pancreas transplant. At this time, Tyler is on medication to slow the disease down but it will not stop or get better. However, Tyler continues to fight and has fought to push past all obstacles in his way and does online classes at home to ensure he graduates from high school.
Tyler has always dreamed of being a police officer and the Sarasota Police Department is stepping in to try and make that dream a reality. On Thursday, June 25th, Tyler, and his mother, Autumn, will take part in a full day of Sarasota Police Department activities. The Sarasota Police Department will also be hosting a special ‘Tweet from the Beat’ to share Tyler’s Special Day with those who follow on social media using #TylerReports4Duty Tyler Babcock’s Special Day schedule includes training, a swearing in ceremony with Chief Bernadette DiPino, Marine & Patrol Unit Ride Along as well as a SWAT & K9 Demonstration.
