Murder at Family Inn Remains Under Investigation

SARASOTA, Fla - July 14, 2015 - 11:30 a.m.

The investigation into the Attempted Murder that occurred at the Family Inn, 4807 North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, on Saturday, July 11, 2015, is now a murder investigation.  The victim, Quenton Spears, has died.

Devontae Robinson, 18, has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence.  The investigation remains ongoing.

SARASOTA, Fla. – July 13, 2015 – 11:30 a.m.

On Saturday, July 11, 2015 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Sarasota Police Officers responded to the Family Inn, 4807 North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, for a suspicious incident which was later determined to be a shooting.

The victim, Quenton Spears, 18, who was visiting the Family Inn, was shot by Devontae H. Robinson, 18.  The relationship between the victim and the suspect is unknown at this time.  Currently, Spears remains at Sarasota Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries.  An independent witness found firearm in the area and it was collected by Sarasota Police Officers and put into evidence.

Robinson has been charged with Attempted Murder (felony) and Tampering with Evidence (felony).  Robinson is being held at the Sarasota County Jail and is expected to have his first appearance this afternoon (Monday).
