Significant Burglary Arrest Leads to more than $20,000 in recovered property

SARASOTA, Fla. – September 18, 2015 – 10 a.m.

Anthony W. Berretta, 18, of 217 South Shade Avenue, Sarasota, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of felony burglary after stealing approximately $20,000 worth of property since early September from vehicles and boats in the City of Sarasota.

A warrant was issued for Berretta on September 15th after a victim said he entered the front porch of her residence.  The victim and her 10 year-old son were asleep at the time.  Video surveillance captured Berretta walking up to the home, stealing cash and gaining entry into an unlocked vehicle and stealing an undetermined amount of loose change.

Detectives believe Berretta is responsible for multiple vehicle and boat burglaries throughout the City of Sarasota since early September. 

Currently, Berretta has been charged with:

  • 5 counts of Felony Burglary to an Occupied Dwelling

  • 8 counts of Felony Burglary to an Unoccupied Conveyance (one is a boat, seven are vehicles)

  • 1 count of Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana (less than 20 grams)

Additional charges are pending for Berretta.
