Sarasota Police Investigating Homicide That Occurred Monday Night

SARASOTA, Fla. – September 29, 2015 – 12:40 p.m.

Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department are currently investigating a homicide that occurred Monday at approximately 7 p.m.

Detectives responded to a single vehicle crash near the intersection of 25th Street and Orange Avenue in Sarasota. When they arrived, a male victim was found with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he later died. Detectives believe, at this time, a shooting occurred near the intersection of 25th Street and Leon Avenue and the victim drove himself several hundred feet before crashing into a tree near the intersection of 25th Street and Orange Avenue. The name of the victim is being withheld until the next of kin has not been notified.

A suspect is not in custody at this time. Detectives are actively working all leads including interviewing possible witnesses.
