Skimming device found at Marathon gas station; Credit card users should check statements

SARASOTA, Fla. -- February 4, 2016 -- 11:45 a.m.

On Wednesday, February 3, 2016, a skimming device was located inside one of the gas pumps at the Marathon Gas Station, 2000 North Washington Boulevard, Sarasota.  It’s unknown how long the device was on the pump but according to the Department of Agriculture, the last time the pump was checked was in March 2015.

A member of the Department of Agriculture was conducting a routine, annual check of the gas pump on Wednesday and located the skimming device inside the pump.  The pump where the skimming device was located is out of view of any cameras at the gas station.

Customers who have purchased gas at the Marathon station should pay attention to their bank accounts and look for any unknown transactions, regardless of how small they might be and follow up with the bank if something seems wrong.
