Sarasota Police Officers Capture Boa Constrictor

SARASOTA, FLA. -- March 17, 2016 -- 2 p.m.

As Sarasota Police day shift Officers were starting their shift this morning, several Officers were dispatched to a call of a snake that was inside a porch in the 200 block of North Shade Avenue, Sarasota, at approximately 6:30 a.m.  When Officers arrived, they located a Boa Constrictor, approximately 4 feet in length, just outside the porch of an apartment.

Officer Todd Tschetter and Officer Sean Gleason worked together to capture the snake and called the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services to come and retrieve the animal.  Officer Tschetter used a pole that was already inside his patrol vehicle to wrangle the snake while Officer Gleason held a pillowcase, given to him by the homeowner who called Dispatch, to hold the snake.  Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services is now caring for the reptile.

Video of the capture along with interviews with Officer Tschetter and Officer Maiah Taylor (another Officer who responded) can be seen below.
