In May 2015, motorcyclist Shawn Conley, 23, of Sarasota, was killed after he was hit by a drunk driver at the intersection of Mound Street and Orange Avenue in Sarasota. That drunk driver was Ethan McDermed, 23 of Sarasota. He was charged with DUI Manslaughter.
Today, August 4, 2016, McDermed pled guilty and received more than 11 and a half years in prison (140.77 months). McDermed’s legal blood alcohol level was 0.151 four hours after the crash.
On May 9, 2015, McDermed was driving a 1998 Ford Pickup south on Orange Avenue when he ran a red light and drove into the intersection of Mound Street and hit and killed Conley.
