SARASOTA, FL. -- August 5, 2016 -- 1:30 p.m.
Norman Barlay, 40, of Bradenton, was charged this morning with three (3) counts of D.U.I. with property damage in connection to multi-vehicle crash that closed the Ringling Bridge for approximately four hours on Saturday, June 25, 2016. This week, Officers received the FDLE report documenting the blood alcohol level of Barlay was 0.324 and 0.329.
On June 25, 2016 at approximately 11:15 a.m., Barlay was driving carelessly westbound over the John Ringling Bridge, did a U-turn at Bird Key Park and drove back eastbound over the Bridge with a flat tire. As Barlay drove eastbound, the truck he was driving sideswiped the raised concrete wall multiple times.
After going over the Bridge, the truck went through the landscaped median and crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a Cadillac in the westbound lanes. About 300 feet later, the truck sideswiped a Pontiac Grand Prix that was in the breakdown lane.
At this time, Barlay is being held at the Sarasota County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
