CASE UPDATE: Sarasota Police Detectives Attempt to Identify Art Theft Subjects

SARASOTA, FL. -- January 30, 2017 -- 10 a.m.

CASE UPDATE:  Sarasota Police Detectives have arrested two men in connection to an art theft case that occurred in December 2016 at Art Avenue, 3501 South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.

Anthony J. Larson, 30, of Sarasota, and Rex L. Ballinger, 29, of Sarasota, were both charged with Grand Theft.  Larson was recognized by a resident who called Sarasota PD and Ballinger turned himself in to Detectives after seeing himself on the news.  Both men have since bonded out of jail.

Unfortunately the two paintings that were stolen have not been recovered.  Detectives learned the paintings were discarded in the Sarasota area after the crime was committed.

SARASOTA, FL. – January 17, 2017   – 1 p.m.

On December 12, 2016 at approximately 5 p.m., two men walked into Art Avenue, 3501 South Tamiami Trail, Suite 119, Sarasota, and took two paintings off the walls without paying for them.  The two men then left the area on foot.

The two paintings are valued at approximately $7,500.  Several clear surveillance photos of the two men entering and leaving the art store are attached.
