Sarasota Police Investigating Suspicious Social Media Post

SARASOTA, Fla. -- October 26, 2017 -- 9:30 a.m.

Late this afternoon, the Sarasota Police Department was notified by Sarasota High School administration that posts on the social media platform, Snapchat, had generated concern related to a potential threat to the school.  A student at Sarasota High brought the concerning messages to the attention of teachers.

Tonight Sarasota Police Detectives were able to locate the individual who posted the message on Snapchat.  Detectives spoke with the young girl and her parents and clarified the location and intent of the messages that were posted.  Currently, the Sarasota Police Department does not have any information to support any type of threat to students and/or staff at Sarasota High School.

In an abundance of caution, there will be additional uniformed Officers on the campus of Sarasota High School tomorrow, Friday, October 27, 2017, to allow any concerns from staff, students or parents to be addressed.

As always, the Sarasota Police Department encourages anyone who sees or reads anything that is suspicious, to notify their local law enforcement immediately as in this case today.
