Sarasota Police to host ‘Tweet from the Boat’ on Friday, April 14, 2017

SARASOTA, Fla. -- April 13, 2017 -- 8 a.m.

The Sarasota Police Department is taking social media followers on another ‘virtual ride-along’ but instead of the normal ‘Tweet from the Beat,’ it will be with the Sarasota Police Department Marine Patrol and it will be a ‘Tweet from the Boat.’

On Friday, April 14, 2017 beginning at 7:30 a.m., Marine Patrol Officer Michael Skinner will share what he says and does through texts, videos, GIFs and photos.  The Partnership Policing Communications Coordinator will tweet on behalf of Officer Skinner.  People following on Twitter @SarasotaPD will be able to ask questions and interact with the Sarasota Police Department while they are on patrol.

“We are fortunate in the City of Sarasota to have boating weather pretty much year round.  However, this is the time of year that we start to see boating traffic increase on the water and people begin to prep their boats for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday,” said Officer Skinner.  “Carelessness and not paying attention are the leading causes of boating accidents.  We want to keep boaters, their families and friends safe.”

To join the Sarasota Police Department in the virtual ride along:  Twitter users can follow the Sarasota Police Department under the handle @SarasotaPD.  To create a Twitter account, users can visit to www.twitter.com and sign up.  It’s easy, quick and free.  Once an account is created, users can follow @SarasotaPD
