Update in 2015 Homicide Case

SARASOTA, Fla. -- April 5, 2017 -- 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, April 5, 2017, Judge Thomas Krug sentenced Diandrew Clarkson, 22, of Tampa to life in prison for the murder of Daniel Ortiz in September 2015 in the City of Sarasota.

On September 28, 2015, Sarasota Police Officers responded to the 1500 block of 25th Street, Sarasota, in reference to a vehicle crash.  Detectives later determined Ortiz was a victim of a gunshot.  EMS responded and transported him to Sarasota Memorial where he later died.  Witnesses told Detectives the suspect and victim were involved in a verbal dispute over the sale of narcotics.

For the last several years, Sarasota Police Criminal Investigation Division Detectives Anthony DeFrancisco and Maria Llovio have worked closely with State Attorney Prosecutor Karen Fraivillig to bring closure to this case.  “The outcome on this case is a result of hard work, dedication and partnership between the Sarasota Police Department and the State Attorney’s Office,” said Detective DeFrancisco.
