UPDATE: Attempt to Identify Hit & Run Driver Involved in Crash

SARASOTA, FL. -- May 25, 2017 -- 12:30 p.m.

Officers with the Sarasota Police Department, in their continuing investigation, have located the vehicle, a 2015 white GMC Terrain, involved in the hit and run referenced in the news release below. 

A helpful citizen who saw the video posted on the Sarasota Police Department Facebook page, contacted the case investigator.  The tip called in led to the seizure of the vehicle in question.  The investigation remains active and ongoing.

SARASOTA, FL. – May 24, 2017   – 8:30 a.m.

Officers with the Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a driver of a vehicle who was involved in a hit and run crash on May 7, 2017.  Video of the hit and run crash can be seen on the Sarasota Police Department YouTube page at https://youtu.be/tAluLBu5XcE

At approximately 4:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2017, a vehicle was driving northbound on South Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.  The vehicle turned westbound onto Bay Road in front of a vehicle traveling southbound.  The two vehicles crashed but the driver of the vehicle in question left the scene.  The driver of the other vehicle did sustain injuries but they are not life threatening. 

Officers believe the vehicle involved in the crash that left the scene is a white GMC Terrain made between 2010 and 2016.  The vehicle has damage on the passenger side rear door area.
