SARASOTA, FL – April 25, 2018 – 8:30 a.m.
Uvo-Kk Ayoma Uvo, 26, of Bradenton, has been charged with Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child following a December 2017 aggravated battery case involving a 3-month old child. A medical examiner’s final report, completed April 19, 2018, showed the manner of death was homicide (assaulted by other persons).
On December 27, 2017 at approximately 2:45 p.m., 911 was called from the area of Lockwood Ridge and 17th Street in Sarasota. The child’s mother told dispatchers her son, who was 3-months old at the time, was not breathing and unresponsive. Sarasota Police officers and paramedics arrived. The child was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
The child’s mother told detectives she was driven to a nail salon by her boyfriend, Uvo-Kk Ayoma Uvo. The 3-month old child was also in the car. When the child’s mother called Uvo-Kk Ayoma Uvo to pick her up, he arrived with the child in the car. The mother said the child was lifeless and felt slightly cold to the touch. When the child’s mother called 911, Uvo-Kk Ayoma Uvo fled from the scene on foot because he had three warrants out of Lee County. The child was transported via Bayflight to All Children’s Hospital for further treatment. Doctors at All Children’s Hospital told Sarasota Police detectives there was suspected abuse of the child.
On December 28, 2017, Uvo-Kk Ayoma Uvo spoke with detectives. Initially he was charged with Aggravated Child Abuse and Child Neglect because of the injuries inflicted to the child while in the care of Uvo-Kk Ayoma Uvo. The child passed away December 29, 2017.
On Tuesday, April 24, 2018 the charges of Aggravated Child Abuse and Child Neglect were upgraded to Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child due to the medical examiner’s final report. Uvo-Kk Ayoma Uvo is being held at the Sarasota County Jail.
