Sarasota Police Investigating Early Morning Double Shooting

SARASOTA, FL  – April 6, 2018   – 12:15 p.m.

Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department are continuing their investigation into a double shooting that occurred in the 1400 block of 21st Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. today, Friday, April 6, 2018.

Officers responded to a shooting inside a home at 1438 21st Street, Sarsaota, in reference to two individuals shot at close range.  Upon Officers’ arrival, both victims were on scene and were transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital by rescue personnel.  Both victims are adult females and remain at Sarasota Memorial with serious injuries.  The relationship between the victims and the suspect remains unknown at this time.

Detectives have determined Linval Cohoone, age 33, date of birth 9/2/1983, with a last known address in Sarasota, is the suspect in this case.  Cohoone is considered armed and dangerous and is wanted for two (2) counts of Attempted Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Cohoone has 45 previous felony charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, aggravated feeling to elude, burglary of an occupied structure and possession of cocaine. 

Numerous media outlets requested the number of calls for service to the home where the shooting occurred:

·         2016:  3 calls for service (assist other agency 2x, suspicious incident)

·         2017: 6 calls for service (disturbance 2x, family disturbance 2x, suspicious incident, civil disturbance)

·         Year to date 2018: 9 calls for service (suspicious incident 5x, disturbance 3x, family disturbance)
