Remains of Jabez Spann Located in rural Manatee County
Tuesday, February 19, 2019, the Sarasota Police Department learned though the testing conducted by a forensic dental expert that the remains of Jabez Spann, 14, were located in rural Manatee County over the weekend.
On Saturday, February 16, 2019, at approximately 4:30 p.m., an individual working in the area of rural Manatee County, west of I-75, located skeletal remains and called 911. The specific location is not being released at this time due to the active and ongoing death investigation.
During a news conference Tuesday evening, which can be viewed on the Sarasota Police Department YouTube page at https://youtu.be/8RSMby94naE , Deputy Chief Pat Robinson and Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells spoke with members of the media.
It’s unknown how long the remains were at the location where they were found. It’s unknown if Jabez passed away from natural causes or if foul play is involved.
Jabez Spann disappeared in September 2017. On September 5, 2017, he was reported missing to the Sarasota Police Department. Family members last saw him at a family gathering on September 4, 2017.

The Sarasota Police Department and the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office will have a dual press conference tonight at 9 p.m. to discuss new developments in the disappearance of Jabez Spann. Spann, 14 years old, was last seen in the area of 22nd Street, Sarasota, on September 4, 2017.
A news conference will be held at Sarasota Police Department Headquarters, 2099 Adams Lane, Sarasota, in the 2nd Floor Community Room. Only members of the media will be allowed to attend.
