Sarasota man arrested in death of girlfriend & unborn baby
Casey Swart, 23, of Sarasota, has been arrested and is facing one count of manslaughter, and one count of manslaughter/killing of an unborn child by injury to mother in connection to the death of his girlfriend and their unborn baby.
On Monday, December 2, 2019 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Osprey Avenue, Sarasota, and began CPR on an unconscious pregnant woman, 23-years-old. The woman was 9 months pregnant. When Officers arrived, they found Swart pacing in the living room and spontaneously stated, “oh my God. I can’t believe it. Oh my God. I went too far.”
EMS arrived on scene and took over medical treatment and transported the woman to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where she and her unborn child were pronounced deceased. Officers believe Swart purchased Fentanyl and shared it with his girlfriend which contributed to a medical episode. Toxicology reports and a report from the medical examiner will determine the final cause of death.
Detectives believe this is an isolated incident and the public is not in any danger. Information about the woman and her unborn child is being withheld due to Marsy’s Law.
Swart was arrested and transported to the Sarasota County Jail in the afternoon of Tuesday, December 3, 2019. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Detective Maria Llovio at 941-263-6836 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 941-366-TIPS or online at www.sarasotacrimestoppers.com
