14-year-old facing attempted murder charges following shooting incident
SARASOTA, FL – January 31, 2020 – 8 a.m.
Sha’Miya Williams, 14, is facing charges of Attempted Murder - Second Degree, following a shooting Wednesday night. Per F.S.S. 985.04 (2) (a) 1., information about juveniles charged with felonies is public record.
On January 29, 2020 at approximately 9 p.m., Sarasota Police responded to the 1700 block of 23rd Street, Sarasota, for a report of a shooting in the area. Officers found a victim, a 16-year-old male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim is expected to survive.
Witnesses told officers the victim and witnesses were speaking in a driveway. Witnesses say Williams walked up and started shooting at the victim. Williams fired multiple rounds with two rounds striking the victim. The victim and Williams do know one another.
Williams was arrested without incident on Thursday, January 30, 2020 and transported to the Sarasota County Jail. This case remains an active and ongoing investigation.
