10-year-old boy injured following target practice with pellet rifle in neighborhood
Sarasota Police detectives are investigating an incident after a 10-year-old boy was injured by a pellet rifle in the 1700 block of Bethune Court, Sarasota.
On Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the boy was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. At the hospital, doctors found a small projectile in the boy’s back. Due to the nature of the injuries, the boy was transported to Tampa General Hospital where he’s currently in stable condition.
Sarasota Police detectives have determined through their investigation the pellet rifle was being used for target practice. Witnesses told Sarasota Police detectives they believe the 10-year-old boy was injured from a ricochet from the pellet rifle accidentally.
